Invite a friend linkback to discussions

Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble using the "Invite a friend" feature & was wondering if someone was using it currently?

I'd like to use a link in an upcoming newsletter, but I'm having problems getting it to work - any help/suggestions/examples much appreciated.

Thanks
Shane

Yeah, I can see how it would be confusing!  I really never created a good help file for this.  I'm working on it now- I'll send the info to you in email as well as posting it on the site.

The function you're looking for is the forward to a friend. Since this function is connected to the message your sending in your mailer, it is accessed from the create/edit message screen.

1. Step one is to put the "forward" link in the message by editing the message and putting in the following token:

%friend_link%link title% -- such as, "friend_link%forward this message to a friend!%

This will insert a link that a recipient will click on to bring them to the signup page where they can enter their friend's email address.

You also have a chance to insert a custom message that only the person receiving the forwarded message will see.  Use the %friend_output% token for that, as described below.

2. On the "edit message" page you will see the "friend_link%...% at the bottom of the "special  message tokens" area.  Just to the right is a link that brings you to the friends utilities.  This is the confusing part because the link is so invisible!  Click on it and you will then be able to edit the signup templat.

3. There is also the Outgoing Template on that page, and this replaces the %friend_output% token so you can customize the message before it's forwarded to a friend.  You can use tokens in there to insert the forwarder's email address and such.

The %friend_output% token is removed during the original sending of the message as it's only necessary for the people who the message was forwarded to.

Thanks Scot - suddenly it makes sense & I can actually find the link now! I was worried I wasn't going to be able to use this feature at all but things have definitely taken an upswing now, cheers.
